The selection process consists of a Screening Test (Computer Based Test), a Written Examination and a Viva Voce test. The Screening Test is a 100-mark multiple choice exam, with 40% qualifying score, used to shortlist candidates for the written exam at a 1:10 ratio with the vacancies available. The Written Examination has three papers each consisting of 100 marks, each paper consisting of a three hour examination: Paper I covering Civil Laws, Paper II covering Criminal Laws, and Paper III consisting of an English Translation and Essay writing test. Successful written examination candidates are shortlisted to participate in a 50 marks Viva Voce test with successful candidates being shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio with the vacancies available.
