What is the Short Service Commission (SSC) offered by the Indian Navy, and when does the Jan 2026 (ST 26) course commence?
The Indian Navy is offering a Short Service Commission (SSC) to eligible unmarried men and women. This commission provides an initial tenure of 12 years, extendable by a maximum of 2 years subject to service requirements, performance, medical fitness, and willingness of the candidate. The Jan 2026 course will commence at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala.
How will applications be shortlisted, and what documents are needed for the application process?
Applications are shortlisted based on normalised marks obtained in the qualifying degree. Marks are normalised using a formula available on the Indian Navy website. For BE/ B.Tech candidates, marks up to the fifth semester are considered. For post-graduate degree candidates, all semester marks are considered. Required documents include degree marksheets, date of birth proof (10th & 12th certificates), CGPA conversion formula, Merchant Navy certificate (if applicable), NCC 'C' certificate (if applicable), and a recent passport-sized colour photograph. It is important that these are in JPG/TIFF format, original, and legible.
What is the selection procedure after shortlisting, and is travel compensation provided?
Shortlisted candidates will be informed about their selection for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview through email or SMS. Candidates may also need to clear the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and an Aviation Medical Examination, particularly if applying for Pilot entry. AC 3-tier rail fare is admissible for the SSB interview, if appearing for the first time for that particular type of commission. It is essential to bring a photocopy of the first page of a passbook or cheque leaf that includes the name, account number, and IFSC code.
How do I apply for the SSC, and are there any specific instructions I should be aware of?
Applications must be submitted online through the Indian Navy website: www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. It's recommended to fill in details and upload documents in advance to save time. Ensure all documents are scanned in original and in the correct format. The information provided must be accurate, as false declarations can lead to cancellation of the application. Only one application per candidate is permitted. Also, it’s important to note that the Navy has a strict ban on drug use and possession. Applicants can be tested for drugs, and usage can lead to disqualification at any stage of the selection, training or service process.
