The selection process involves a competitive examination consisting of English and Hindi shorthand tests and a computer test. The shorthand tests include dictation and transcription, while the computer test assesses speed and efficiency. Candidates who pass these will be called for an interview based on merit. The final selection will be based on the total aggregate marks obtained in the Shorthand Test and Computer Test. The minimum age is 18 years. Candidates must not have attained the age of 40 years on 01.01.2026. Age relaxations are granted for various categories as follows: 5 years for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, and Economically Weaker Sections; 5 years for women candidates; and 50 years for ex-servicemen. The upper age relaxation will be admissible only in one category. Additional relaxation is available for ex-servicemen equivalent to the period of service they served in the military, provided that they did not exceed the maximum age limit. Similar provision is made for ex-prisoners. There is no age limit for widows and divorcee women, Released Emergency Commissioned Officers, and Short Service Commissioned Officers. A relaxation is also applicable for persons with benchmark disabilities.
