The report states that Shreyas Iyer batted for about an hour without any discomfort or pain, raising hopes of his return to competitive cricket soon.Shreyas Iyer last played in the ODI series against Australia in October. During that series, he was injured while taking a catch. Investigations revealed a spleen injury and internal bleeding. This injury forced him to spend several days in the ICU.

Subsequently, he was ruled out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also missed the ODI series against South Africa.While Iyer’s return date is not yet confirmed, reports suggest he is trying to return to the field during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. A final decision on his return will be made only after the Centre of Excellence’s report.

Speaking to Times of India, a BCCI official said, “Shreyas Iyer suffered a very unfortunate injury in Australia, which kept him away from competitive cricket for a long time. The good thing is that he is completely pain-free at the moment and batted without any trouble in Mumbai on Wednesday.”

According to reports, Shreyas Iyer is expected to spend four to six days at the Bengaluru Centre of Excellence, during which time a clearer picture of his fitness, batting load, and movement will emerge.The official further stated that Iyer has already returned to the gym and fitness training. All X-rays and medical tests conducted after the injury have revealed nothing of concern.India’s next ODI series against New Zealand begins on January 11. The team is expected to be announced around January 2 or 3. Shreyas Iyer’s selection is still uncertain, but if all goes well, his return cannot be ruled out.
