After just one match, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been ruled out of the tournament. This 14-year-old batsman, playing for Bihar, had to leave the tournament after just one match for a special reason. This was due to a special award he was to receive from the President of India, and for this, he flew to Delhi after his first match. Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 began on Wednesday, December 24th.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Bihar batted outstanding in the first match of Vijay Hazare Trophy
Bihar’s first match was against Arunachal Pradesh, and Vaibhav smashed a blistering century in this match. The left-handed star opener created a stir with his astonishing and record-breaking innings of 190 runs in just 84 balls. During his innings, Vaibhav reached 150 runs in just 59 balls, breaking AB de Villiers’ world record for the fastest 150. Suryavanshi’s innings helped Bihar post a mammoth total of 574 runs, securing a comfortable victory.
However, Bihar will now face the tournament without its star batsman in subsequent matches. Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be honored with the Prime Minister’s National Child Award by the central government this year. President Draupadi Murmu will present him with this special award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday, December 26th. Vaibhav will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during this time. Vaibhav flew directly to Delhi after his first match to be a part of this big day.
Bihar’s next match is on December 26th, so Vaibhav will not be able to participate in it. However, he will still be unable to play in the tournament after that, as he will join the Under-19 team, which will depart for South Africa on December 30th. This team will play a three-match ODI series between January 4th and 9th.
This series is being played in preparation for the Under-19 World Cup. This means that fans will have to wait until January 4th to see Vaibhav Suryavanshi showcase his batting prowess again.
