The Aadhaar card has become the most essential identification document for every Indian today. It’s required everywhere, from banking to government schemes, but for many, the old photo on the Aadhaar card becomes a major problem. With age, the photo changes so much that sometimes even identity becomes questionable. If you want to avoid this hassle, changing the photo on your Aadhaar card is an excellent option.
Why is a photo update mandatory

When the photo becomes too old, your identity may become suspect, leading to delays in processing bank or government services. This problem is especially common for those who applied for their Aadhaar card as children. The UIDAI allows you to change the photo on your Aadhaar card. However, unlike a name, address, or mobile number, the photo cannot be updated online. To do so, you must visit an Aadhaar enrollment or service center.
Changing your photo at an Aadhaar service center
The process of changing your photo on your Aadhaar card is simple, but requires you to be present in person at the center. Your new photo was taken there, and the biometric process is completed.
To update your photo, first visit the UIDAI’s official website, uidai.gov.in. Under the ‘My Aadhaar’ section, you’ll find the ‘Enrollment and Update Forms’ option. Download and print this form and fill in the required information.
Take the completed form to the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Your form will be verified there.
After verification, a new photo will be taken at the center, and your iris will be scanned. The entire process is conducted in accordance with UIDAI regulations to ensure no errors occur.
Updating your photo requires a fee. This fee is ₹100, which includes GST. After the process is completed, you’ll be given a URN (Update Request Number).
Check Status and Get a New Photo

You can check the status of your Aadhaar update using this URN number. It typically takes 30 to 90 days for your photo to be updated. During this time, you can track the status by entering your URN number on the UIDAI website. Once updated, you can receive a new Aadhaar card with a clear photo, making it easier to verify your identity.
